World66 was a
Dutch company which embraced the

Internet Brands, Inc which acquired it in
April 2006.
History
The site was founded in
1999 by
Richard Osinga and
Douwe Osinga as Osinga.com, but the name was changed to World66 in the same year and they were soon joined by Michael Manikowski. On
November 29 2003, it expanded by absorbing the travel-related
CapitanCook wiki.
Internet Brands announced their acquisition of World66 on
April 20,
2006.
Technology
World66 uses

Zope application server, which allows everyone to add or edit contents.
The site claims more than 80,000 travel related articles covering about 10,000 destinations around the world and all of them are licensed under the
Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 1.0 Licence.
Issues
In
2004, World66 relicensed all content to an open license first a
GNU FDL license and consequently to CC by-sa 1.0 - those who had contributed under GNU FDL license were informed of the change by e-mail and had the possibility to withdraw contributions.

External Link Exchanges
Do you know how hard it is to get a link from a large encyclopaedia? Well we're different and will prove it. To get a link from us just add the following HTML to your site on a relevant page:
<a href="http://world66.totallyexplained.com">World66 Totally Explained</a>
Then simply click through this link from your web page. Our crawlers will verify your link, extract the title of your web page and instantly add a link back to it. If you like you can remove the words Totally Explained and embed the link in article text.
As long as your link remains in place, we'll keep our link to you right here. Please play fair - our crawlers are watching. Your site must be closely related to this one's topic. Any kind of spamming, dubious practises or removing the link will result in your link from us being dropped and, potentially, your whole site being banned. |
